Since graduating The School of Toronto Dance Theatre in 2011, Jillian Peever has performed for Peggy Baker, Angela Blumberg, Estelle Clareton, Lina Cruz, Jesse Dell, Kiri Figuiero, Danny Grossman, Christopher House, Allen Kaeja, Karen Kaeja, and Sharon B. Moore. Her recent work for Lemi Ponifaso in his staging of R. Maury Schafer’s opera Apocalypsis allowed her to share the stage with some of Canada’s great contemporary dance artists such as Sylvie Bouchard, Denise Fujiwara, Kate Holden, Susanna Hood, Claudia Moore, Brodie Stevenson, and other artists from Toronto and the New Zealand company, MAU.

Peever’s choreography has been presented at Series 8:08’s Choreographic Performance Workshops, the Chimera Project’s Fresh Blood, 60×60, Kaeja d’Dance’s Wind-Down-Dance, and at other venues with mixed programming. In 2014 she produced the double-bill show Perception: A Way of Seeing, and What We Do at Dancemaker’s Centre for Creation, co-presented by Danceworks CoWorks featuring her work What We Do. Peever co-produced Sharon B. Moore’s collection of solos titled Fantasies and Other Poisons in 2012, which laid the seeds for Peever’s solo show The Mystery of Mr. Leftovers—also by Moore—which will premiere February 2016.

Teaching gives Peever the opportunity to meet adults and young people of all levels of dance and fitness ability across the GTA and Ontario who share a passion and curiosity of dance. She teaches ballet, contemporary, creative movement, outreach workshops, and fitness classes at public schools, private studios, and other major institutions such as Canada’s National Ballet School, and George Brown Theatre School.

Peever’s work has received funding from The Toronto Arts Council, the Ontario Arts Council, and Canada Council for the Arts. The OAC’s Chalmer’s Family Professional Development grant allowed her to study under choreographic mentor Sasha Ivanochko. She continues to develop her artistry and skills as a multi-dimensional dance artist through regular practice, and participation in workshops and intensives in Toronto and abroad.
